Dr. Sugden is retired and no-longer seeing clients

Hello & Welcome!

Hopefully, the information below will help you in your search. I have included specific information about my practice, services, and credentials. So, if you’re ready to move forward and address the challenge that prompted your search, I invite you in for a free consultation. We can determine if your specific goals and my expertise are a good fit, and if not, I can provide a referral.

My Background

As a licensed, Clinical and Health Psychologist with extensive training and experience in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Positive Psychology, I specialize in Stress Management, Anxiety, and related disorders: Social Anxiety, Re-Entry Anxiety, Generalized Anxiety, Trauma; ADHD, and Addictions.

I received my Doctor of Psychology degree from Pepperdine University (1996), and a Master’s in Marriage & Family Therapy (1992), also from Pepperdine. I completed a formal APA-approved internship (VA-Los Angeles) and a Post-Doctoral Fellowship. It was an honor to be selected by Joseph Wolpe, M.D. (“Father of Behavior Therapy”), for a three-year individual, clinical mentorship in Anxiety Disorders.

I served as president for the National Honor Society in Psychology (PSI CHI), Pepperdine University, and was later honored as the recipient of Pepperdine’s “Person to Watch in Psychology”. Most recently, I served nine years on the Continuing Education Committee (MCEP) of the California Psychological Association, and as a member of the Board of Directors of the California Psychological Association’s Orange County Chapter.

About My Approach

As an engaged, collaborative therapist with a specialty practice – I am able to provide focused, individualized care. Clients often comment on the difference they experience in this kind of environment. The combination of extensive clinical training with leading experts, past and present, allows me to offer cutting-edge, evidence-based treatment. By integrating the latest neuroscience research, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Positive Psychology, and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), I provide strategies and skills that contribute to meaningful, lasting change and growth. I particularly enjoy working with adults and couples who have a growth mindset and future orientation.

Clients typically include professionals, executives, entrepreneurs, therapists, creatives, and couples with relationship stress. I also provide consultation to psychotherapists, healthcare providers and closely held corporations.

Fees & Insurance

Hourly fees for in-office or virtual sessions are $195 USD. As a private-pay provider who focuses on quality of care, I do not contract with any insurance companies and/or insurance programs.
